Heidi Farrow Designs

mixed media, polymer clay, jewelry, paintings

I use only lead-free solder for my glass jewelry. I enclose such objects as copper, stamps, feathers, illustrations, and polymer clay.

Chairs

I collaborated with some wonderful artists this year and we all decorated antique chairs. These are the two chairs that I did. They are both very unique!
Decorated with stained glass,
wire, and paint
Decorated with paint, ribbons, Swarovski crystals, and wire

Meaning behind Chinese Symbols

I think these Chinese symbols are so beautiful visually and expressively. Is there a word or motto you would like to wear that you don't see here?

forever, always, everlasting

peaceful, serenity, tranquility

peaceful, harmony

friend, friendly

longevity, long life, life, age,
birthday

Necklaces

Pictured below is a sampling of my work (click on a photo to enlarge). Necklaces like these are $38. Changes are available. I can change colors to suit your taste, change the Chinese symbol, or change the style of cord: (1. wire with beads, 2. wire with velour tubing, 3. leather-adjustable with knots that you slide to your favorite length or, 4. plain cord cut to the right length finished off with clasps.) I can also develop a new design that you don't see here, or something similar. (Ideas for designs are graciously accepted.) And, together we can work out the new and the unique!

Photo or Treasure Pieces

Do you have a small photograph you would like to wear, a favorite piece of fabric, a feather, a lock of your loved ones hair? I use rectangle and square shapes of glass in various sizes to enclose the treasures. A photo necklace accented with wire and beads is $25. A less embellished piece, like the feather would be $20. (I can also make it as a pin, earrings, or ornament, whatever your choice.)

Earrings

These earring styles are all $28 (click to enlarge). The ear hooks are sterling silver. Does a style catch your eye but you want something a little different? Tell me about it and I will create your idea.

Pins

These glass pin styles are $30 (click to enlarge). The pin on the left is an illustration of mine enclosed in glass, soldered around the edge, and accented with wire. The pin on the right is a peacock feather, enclosed in glass, soldered around the edge and accented with glass beads and wire.

Crown Sculptures

I was so inspired by a crown I saw by another artist that I just had to try it for myself! I cut many small pieces of glass into squares and triangles and then soldered them together (click to enlarge). In between some of the clear pieces of glass are words from the poem "Strange Fits of Passion Have I Known" by William Wordsworth. There is a glass moonface and wire accents. The crown sculptures sell for $150. I can put names, wedding dates, photos, etc. inside the glass to make it completely unique for you.

Artist's Bio & Accomplishments

I grew up in Massachusetts where I graduated from Bridgewater State College with a degree in Fine Arts and a minor in Anthropology. My proudest artistic achievement is a 16 foot long, 4 1/2 foot tall mural of a Right Whale, painted in acrylics, which is permanently housed in the science building. My original thought, upon graduation, was to become a Scientific Illustrator but I never returned to school.

My first "art" job was at Davis Publications working in the Advertising Department of their teaching magazine called "SchoolArts." While I worked there I was given the wonderful opportunity to do a pen & ink drawing of the Goddess of Dolni Vestonice, the oldest known (23,000 BC) fired clay figurine for an art poster (which is still being sold today, 12 years later). I also did an illustration for one of their books, had a painting on the cover of their annual catalog, and some drawings in the magazine.

My next job was a Web Site Designer/HTML Programmer for the Gillette Company's Intranet. Instead of using paper and pen, I was now drawing with the computer. The "undo" feature is so much faster than an eraser!

In 2000, I gave birth to my first daughter and had the wonderful opportunity to stay at home with her. In 2004, I had my second daughter who has many challenges. But that's a whole other website.

Now that my children are both in school part of the day the "creative bug" has bitten me again. In 2007, I became a member of the Hollis Arts Society. This is a wonderful group of many talented artists.
